    News from Abroad
Recall for Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats
There was a recall in November of 2007 for this product for possible salmonella. There is a second recall because some of the bottles from the first recall were accidentally shipped out. There are 739 bottles of the Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats, Lot code #SZ 22771 and #SZ-16371 manufactured by UFAC for Hartz. While testing by Hartz and UFAC did not reveal salmonella, testing done by the FDA did. Salmonella symptoms in cats are fever, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. There have been no reports of ill people or animals. You can contact Hartz at 1-800-275-1414 with questions or for product refund.

National Poison Prevention Week (March 16-22) Live Chat

    Helpful Tips
Helping your pet with Cushings Disease/Syndrome
    What is it?
This condition is a result of the adrenal glands producing too much corticosteriods/glucocorticoids. In most cases, the adrenal glands are affected by the pituitary gland. Because the pituitary gland is affected by the brain, it is possible that stress has played a role in contributing to this health condition. In other cases, there are adrenal gland tumors that are causing the problem.
    What are the signs?
Signs of Cushings are increased urination, increased thirst, lethargy, and weakness. Dogs and cats show hair loss where horses' coats tend to become thickened, lengthened, and even curly. Horses tend to lose weight even though they have a good appetite. The prior use of steroids or medications for skin conditions has been linked to this condition.
What may help with the symptoms?
This is a very challenging condition but here are some things that might help the symptoms:

  • Nutrition:
Get your animal on probiotics (if dog or cat, see probiotic info below under New Products). Muscle test their diet to make sure you are feeding the right diet for them, realizing what you are feeding may be contributing to their health issues.
  • Stress Reduction:
Is there anything causing your animal to be stressed? If so, do your very best to reduce the situation. Modalities to help you reduce stress are reiki, EFT, a custom Bach flower remedy, and massage. A muscle testing session can be done to determine what is stressing your animal and to find out what method or methods will work best for your pet.
  • Homeopathy:
This can help with the symptoms but you need to find a holistic vet that specializes in homeopathy. If you do not have one near by, some do phone consultations. A holistic vet can help you find the best way to treat your pet with using as little medication as possible.
  • Evaluate Vaccinations:
Shots can worsen allergies and the overall health of your pet. If your animal must have vaccinations, homeopathy such as Thuja can help reduce the side effects.
  • Essiac Tea:
This blend of four herbs may help. It has helped pets with different health conditions but most well known for cancer. You can purchase it from Herbal Healer. There are testimonies on their website.
  • Watch Closely:
This condition can lead to diabetes in dogs and cats. Horses may get laminitis. A high sugar content diet with older horses such as even feeding too many carrots can cause or make worse this condition.

    Future Topics
    April will discuss Diabetes.
What health issue would you like me to talk about? This is where I want your help. I have written about topics in the past like vaccinations, cancer, pain, arthritis, and hyperactivity, but I would like your input as to what topics you would like me to address. This is an e-zine to help you with your animals, whether it is a condition your pet has now or something you want to try to prevent. Please take just a minute to let me know what you want to hear about. I look forward to hearing what you have to say!

    Website Update
There is a whole new look to the website. You can get to the various holistic modalities (including 3 new ones - muscle testing, EFT, and crystal healing) by clicking on the navigation bar or on one of the 3 photos on the home page that best represents you. I'd love to hear what you think about the new look and pages.

    E-book
The Lightfoot Way: 10 Secrets to Holistic Animal Care e-book will be available in April. This e-book is F*R*E*E and goes into more detail about the holistic animal care modalities featured on the website. It will open your eyes to energy based healing, which basically all of the holistic methods on the website incorporate.

To help spread the word about this e-book that could help many pets, for every person you refer that signs up for the e-book (place for that information on sign up form), your name will be entered into a drawing for a $75 gift certificate towards a workshop or distance session. Sign up for the e-book here. Deadline for drawing will be May 15th. Thank you for spreading the word!

F*R*E*E Phone Consultations for New Clients
You may be new to holistic animal care or not familiar with all of the modalities. Sometimes reading the information is not enough. I’m offering a free 20 minute phone consultation for new clients or 1 hour for $25 (normal hourly rate is $75). You can access more information on the bottom of the home page, under the 3 photos.

    Exciting New Products

  • CD’s & E-books: CD’s and e-books on animal communication, meditations, reiki, EFT, and kinesiology will be available for purchase in 2008.
  • Probiotics are very important to the health of your animals. The probiotics I like to use for small animals are Mitomax Premium probiotics MitoMax is a unique probiotic due to its exceptionally high rates of survival of Pedioccocus- live microorganisms (billions/capsule) in animals’ acidic stomach environment when compared to other commonly used Lactobacillus and Bifidobacillus based probiotics. Mitomax premium probiotics when taken in conjunction with antibiotics have been verified to improve the intestinal balance of pets as well as relieve uncomfortable side effects caused by the treatment. One bottle of 40 capsules (one capsule a day for animals under 50#) is $17.99. You can get 10% off by using the coupon #IT08077 indefinitely.
